OIL AND GAS: Stakeholders dialogue to address challenges facing the industry

The Regional Maritime University (RMU) in collaboration with Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and the Ben marine Services (BmS) Ghana, has held a seminar on the theme:

 ‘’Energy Transition in the Maritime Oil &Gas Industry.’’

Held in Accra at RMU Auditorium, the forum brought together representatives from Ghana Gas, MODEC, Sea World, Petroleum Commission, Ghana Maritime Authority, lectures and students.

In an opening remark by the Provost of RMU, Dr. Dennis Njumo Atehnja, he indicated the need to enhance the quality of education in the oil and gas industry.

" The University acknowledges it is not immune to the ever-evolving demands of the industry, hence establishes in collaboration between the Petroleum Commission LI 224 regulation 2 2021, with DNV to further enhance the quality of education in the oil and gas industry.’’ he said.

In a presentation by the Country Manager of DNV, Mr. Fredrick Asamoah, he revealed that, collaborating with RMU and other stakeholders is to foster knowledge sharing on industry challenges such as energy transition, digital technology, cyber security and to undertake joint projects among others.  


He also stressed on the need for industry players coming together in ensuring that a solution is found to the challenges evolving.

“We are looking at how best we can have collaborations to ensure that we find solutions to these challenges,’’ Mr Asamoah assured." 

Mr. Asamoah also highlighted the main services of DNV to the maritime industry which includes: Ship to Offshore Classification, statutory services, advisory services, academy services, cyber-Security, software and digital solutions and technology qualification.

Also, Vice President of Business Development at DNV, Mr. Conn Fagan, in his delivery on Floating Liquid Natural Gas (FNLG) and Flag State Requirement, reiterated the challenges and admonished students to be skillful in order to stay relevant in the industry.

Representatives from the invited companies also took turns to share their knowledge in addressing the various challenges.

In an interview with some stakeholders, they expressed their satisfaction and called for more of such initiatives.
