REGIONAL MARITIME UNIVERSITY :Member states charged to collectively champion Maritime Education in the sub-region

 

Speaking at the 29th Board of Governors Meeting (BOG) of the Regional Maritime University (RMU) in Accra on Friday, Minister of Transport, in a statement red on his behalf by the deputy minister of transport Hon Alhassan Sulemana Tampuli is calling on all member states to provide training to support long term growth in the maritime industry.

‘’ As you may be aware, the main goal of RMU is to promote regional cooperation within the maritime industry, specially by providing training to support long-term growth and development in the transport and fishing industry of member states.

This is accomplished through maritime Education, the training of marine personnel, research and consultancy services as well as fostering maritime cooperation within the sub-regional market’’. 

Commemorating the 65th and 40th Anniversary, the meeting was duly represented by the five (5) member state of the Regional Maritime University, namely The Gambia, Liberia, Ghana, Cameroon and Sierra Leon.

The RMU board of Governors overseas the running of the university at the strategic level but the university is managed on a daily basis by a 5-member management team.

Regional Maritime University is at the heart of maritime education in west and central Africa.

The university is the leading and most recognized university when it comes to maritime education and training in the sub-region.

I iia statement by the Board chairman/chancellor of the RMU and the minister of Transport of The Gambia, Hon. Ebrima Sillah is of the hope that, the remarkable integration in RMU will continue to be a hallmark of exemplary and distinct determiner for unity of purpose within the west Africa sub-region and the entire African continent.

He added that universities’ achievement is by no small measure a mean feat.

‘’ The 65th and 40th anniversaries of our great institution as a training institute and regionalization respectively. This achievement is by no small measure a mean feat’’.

Minister of Transport of Cameroon Hon. Jean Ernest Ngalle Bibehe Massina revealed that the ministry is currently elaborating a Master plan for the development of Maritime industry in Cameroon.

According to him this meeting is being held at the time the maritime sector in Cameroon is undergoing profound reforms.

This plan intends to transform the maritime industry into a veritable turbine for Cameroon’s irreversible drive towards economic emergence in line with the 2030 National Development Strategy. 

EDUCATION 


Maritime Education is expensive, in as much as it is, the program/training is designed to respond directly to the real need of the maritime industry and to equip graduates with the requisite skills needed today and in the future.

RMU is a very refreshing change from the traditional forms of education due to the theoretical and practical nature of the industry and has a flexible payment plan.
