3 Seafarers Pronounced Dead After Inhaling Toxic Gas In Panamax Bulker Cargo Hold

Three seamen of Chinese nationality were pronounced dead after they were reportedly found unconscious in the cargo hold of bulk carrier MSXT ECHO, on September 6, off Taiwan eastern coast. According to a source, the Bulk carrier with a cargo of coal was to berth at Hoping Port, eastern Taiwan, on September 10.

Authorities have suspected that, the men suffocated from inhaling toxic gas in the hold of bulk carrier, MSXT Echo. Three men were rushed to Hualien Hospital by the Taiwanese CG and Airborn Service. The men are said to have been transported by a helicopter crew in a three-hour operation. Unfortunately, all three were pronounced dead.


The Bulk carrier is said to have remained at sea as of September 7. It is believed that the families of the affected crew members have been contacted and informed about the unfortunate incident.
